LGBT+ Matters

Although there are many 'gay-friendly' straight hypnotherapists in London, and the sorts of issues which a gay man might seek help from a hypnotherapist are often much the same as a straight person, as a 'straight-friendly' gay hypnotherapist, I believe that many  gay men may find it easier talking to someone who understands and knows their world and issues. Others from the LGBT+ community may also draw comfort from talking to someone who has at least shared some of their experiences.  LGBT+ people often face particularly difficult life issues living and working in a LGBT-unfriendly world. This can include bullying and isolation growing up LGBT+ in schools and families and religions that didn’t understand; living and working in communities and work places in which it isn’t ok, or sometimes actually dangerous,  to identify as LGBT+. Many people need help with 'coming out' and actually coming to terms with being LGBT+. There are often internal conflicts for LGBT+ people that comes from having been raised to accept as their own the beliefs, values, and heterosexual assumptions of their families, communities, and peers. There are also many physical and mental health issues that disproportionately affect the LGBT+ community, including endemic recreational drug use, risky sexual behaviours, HIV and hepatitis.
